Masala Oats Idli – How To Make Instant Oats Idli

Masala oats idli is easy and healthy breakfast dish. It is mainly made up of fiber rich oats and rava (semolina). Serve them hot with sambar or coconut chutney.

Idli is our favourite breakfast dish 😛 Days when I forget about idli batter I make instant idli. I love making different dishes from oats as eating oats porridge daily is boring 😛 This recipe is one such attempt.

You can use any of these 3 oats to make these masala oats idli (rolled oats will be the best) -Rolled oats: The most common variety of oat. Quick oats: These are processed even further, simply rolled into even thinner flakes to cook faster. Instant oats: These are the most heavily processed.

(NOTE- As I used baking soda and green chillies in this recipe, I didn’t gave it to my toddler to eat. )

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/2 cup oats
  • 3/4 cup rava | semolina
  • 1 cup yoghurt | curd
  • 1 carrot grated
  • 2 green chilly finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1 spring curry leaves
  • 2 tablespoon coriander leaf
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder (optional)
  • Pinch of hing | asafoetida
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon urad dal
  • 1 teaspoon chana dal
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • Fried cashew nuts as required
  • Water as required

PREPARATION

  • Dry roast oats for few minutes or until oats is crispy, cool and grind into powder.
  • Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds, add chana dal, urad dal and fry until golden brown.
  • Now add asafoetida, ginger paste, curry leaves, green chilly and saute for few minutes.
  • Add grated carrot and saute for another minute.Now add semolina / rava and fry for 2-3 minutes. Off the flame and add oats powder. Mix everything well.
  • Once the mixture is cool, add curd and 1/2 water and mix well. Keep it aside for 15 minutes.
  • Meanwhile grease the idli plates. Boil water in idli cooker.
  • Add more water if needed to make idli batter consistency. Add coriander leaf and soda just before pouring batter into the idli plates. Keep one cashew in each mould , before pouring batter.
  • Steam for 15 minutes on medium low flame.
  • Serve hot with sambar or chutney.

NOTES

  • You can add any vegetable of choice.
