INGREDIENTS
FOR BREAD
- 3 cup of maida / all purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp teaspoon
- 3/4 cup water
FOR YEAST PROOFING
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1 packet active yeast or 2 1/4 teaspoon yeast
- 1/4 cup oil (canola oil)
FOR BRUSHING
- 3 tablespoon milk
- 2 tablespoon sesame seeds
INSTRUCTIONS
YEAST PROOFING
- Add sugar and yeast to the lukewarm water and let it sit for 10 minutes.
- After 10 minutes, the water will be bubbly and frothy.
- To this add the canola oil and mix. Yeast mixture is now ready.
DOUGH
- Sieve the flour, sugar and salt in a mixing bowl.
- Add the yeast mixture and mix the dough gently.
- Slowly add water and make a dough.
- Apply some oil on the dough and cover the bowl with a wrap.
- Let the dough rise in a bowl for at least 2-3 hours.
- Once the dough is raised, knead it for 10 minutes.
BRAIDING
- Divide the dough into 3 parts.
- Roll them into long logs.
- Place the three logs parallel.
- Start braiding as we braid hair. Right log on the middle log, then left log on the middle log and again right on the middle and left on the middle and so on.
BAKING
- Bake for 25 minutes at 350F.
- Brush with milk and sesame seeds and bake for 5 more minutes.
